              "Breathing Flowers leads us away from the cliches of the
              sweaty indie-folk mass through green fields, winding
              mountain paths and thick forests to a leafy and secluded
              grove where child-nymphs and faun frolic in the speckled
              sunlight by the lake, a pasty-faced magician casts runes
              under a white oak, and Sarah Palin climbs down from her
              SUV and peels away her skin, revealing herself to be a
              hideous lizard from outer space.

              The comparison might seem an odd one, but "Magical Order
              of the Seven Sacred Planets" has a cousin in Ruth
              White's "Seven Trumps from the Tarot Card" from 1968.
              While the latter explores primitive electronic
              composition, both are occult discs that develop symbolic
              narratives through the use of collage and contrast. Odd,
              at times naïve melodies sit alongside darker passages in
              a solitary ritual outside time.

              Breathing Flowers' invocations are organic song
              fragments stitched together from acoustic guitar, analog
              synthesizer, wordless chanting, percussion and droning
              electronics. These vignettes inspired by the Book of
              Thoth and the pull of the planets are ripe with
              contradiction and draw on a sophisticated emotional
              palette. The melodies and arrangements are reminiscent
              of Morricone in giallo mode, though each sound is
              weighted with symbolism and would sit comfortably as the
              soundtrack to a film like Jaromil Jires' "Valerie and
              Her Week of Wonders" with its eccentric structure, dream
              logic, shapeshifting characters and softcore incest
              fantasy. "
